Tamim's suspected killer alive: Police

By Zaher Bitar, Staff Reporter

The suspect in the Suzan Tamim murder case is alive and remains in Egyptian police custody, Dubai police told XPRESS.

"What has been published or said about the death of Suzan Tamim’s murderer is incorrect  … they are just rumours," a senior police officer said on condition of anonymity.

He added: "We were surprised upon reading the news about his death through different Arabic websites and publications. However, after contacting Egyptian authorities, we were informed he is alive inside the detention cell. The investigation is underway."

Arabic and Egyptian media have reported that the suspect, Muhsain Munir Al Sukari, a 39-year-old Egyptian, was found dead or has committed suicide while in police custody.

Others suggested he died following a heart attack.

After Dubai announced the suspect's arrest in Egypt, police sources said Al Sukari confessed to investigators that Egyptian businessman Hisham Talaat Mustafa paid him to kill the Lebanese singer.

Egyptian media, however, portrayed the businessman in a quiet mood. The tycoon also appeared in the last two days on Arabic TV channels talking about his businesses and the stock market.
