Security beefed up at JBR

Residents of Jumeirah Beach Residence said security has been beefed up following the murder of Lebanese singer Suzan Tamim a few weeks ago.

They said they felt safe living there following the new security measures that have been taken.

No one complained about residents or visitors having to show proof of their identity to the security guards at the entrance. "It’s better than not asking anything," said Tom Stephenson, who lives with his wife Anne at Rimal 4.

"I feel security measures have gone up and all entrants are being stopped, including cabbies, and asked for their identity cards. There are those who get annoyed, but it makes us feel secure. The murder of the singer was a one-off thing. This kind of stuff happens around the world. I feel Dubai is much safer than most other places in the world. That’s why I have chosen to invest here and enjoy my retired life."

Rob Field from Canada is new to the area but said he felt safer here than his native Nova Scotia. "I have been here only for a couple of weeks. I don’t know about the murder. Security in my building is very tight. I am satisfied with the measures taken," said Field, an electrician who lives in a four-bedroom flat at the Oasis Beach Tower.

However, a resident of Sadaf 5 felt that security in his apartment wasn’t too tight. "The other day I had a bunch of friends with me and was surprised to see that no one was stopped."
