Friday Night Live: Laugh riotBy Awad Mustafa, Staff Reporter |
Friday Night Live, a rip-roaring stand-up comedy show featuring nine world-class comedians will be staged at the Madinat Jumeirah this Friday.
Produced by Wonho Chung, and presented by Showtime Arabia, it’s being billed as the biggest comedy show to hit Dubai. The event is the largest in terms of size, quality and the number of acts said Wonho, the wonder kid of stand-up comedy.
Wonho will also present his act among this group of brilliant comedians who are performing for the one-night-only show.
Tagged as Minorities Rule!, the event is expected to entertain audiences from all ethnic groups living in the UAE.
"We have a fantastic mix of acts for all," said Wonho. "We want to present items that people can connect to. The comedians who come from backgrounds similar to that of the audiences in the UAE will present items based on issues which the crowds can relate to."
The hosts of the show include Aron Kader, from the Axis of Evil and Sugar Sammy, an Indian-born stand-up from Canada. Joining them on stage will be the African-American sensation from Comedy Central, Dwayne Perkins; Jordanian-American Mike Batayeh who has worked on the popular TV sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond; Egyptian-American Ronnie Khalil; Lebanese Nemr Abou Nassar; Cairo’s George Azmy, from the Axis of Evil Middle East Tour, and Canadian-Asian comedian Ron Josol.
Comedy is all about improvisation and timing and audiences will have the chance to see many new items at the event. "These comedians have been working hard to come up with new sets," said Wonho.
"We promise to deliver a fresh, clean and rib-tickling show."
The one-night show is expected to be a sell-out at the 2,500-seater Madinat Jumeirah arena.
