Flopped flicks put studios down in the dumps

XPRESS

The failure of Tashan has taken Yash Raj Films to its lowest point ever.

Several top directors have in the past taken a break from directing movies and encouraged their assistants to take over the helm.

But movies by them were not always successful.

Here’s looking at some major directors whose movies have flopped.

Subhash Ghai

After Yaadein and Kisna turned out to be the biggest flops of his career, Subhash Ghai decided to start a film school and produce films for outside directors under his banner Mukta Arts. His first venture with Nagesh Kukunoor, Iqbal, became a huge success but since then it has only been downhill with flops like Shaadi Se Pehle, Good Boy Bad Boy and Bombay to Bangkok. Now it’s all up to his own directorial venture Yuvraj to resurrect his company.

Ram Gopal Verma

Ramu Verma has delivered the maximum number of duds of late. Road, Gayab, Vaastu Shastra, Darwaza Band Rakho, James, Shiva, Nishabd, Go and Ram Gopal Verma Ki Aag have all sunk without a trace.

Yash Chopra

After churning out flops like Tara Rum Pum, Jhoom Bara Bar Jhoom, Laaga Chunri Me Daag and Aaja Nachle, one thought Yash Chopra would set the cash register ringing with Tashan. But the movie has bombed at the box office. The only bright spot for Yash Raj Films was Chak De.

Rakesh Roshan

Rakesh Roshan is the latest director to join the dud bandwagon. He recently produced his first film Krazzy 4 which sank without a trace. Apart from losing money at the box office, the maker also lost money in a court case over the copyright of the songs he used in the film. His next film Kites will also be directed by outside director Anuraag Basu and Rakeysh Mehra might end up directing the Krissh sequel too. Roshan has decided to give young promising directors a chance. But hopefully his first failure will teach him a thing or two about producing films for them.

My day begins with them

I don't trust them, but I enjoy reading them

They're mumbo-jumbo
