I’ve always loved horror movies.
Chills, nail biting and a lot of screaming were always a fun thing to do every time I had the opportunity to see one of the genre in a theatre with a 70mm screen and surround sound.
Quite naturally our younger readers will giggle because they watch everything they want on their home entertainment systems.

This week has seen an army of enlightened men and women participate at the Festival of Thinkers joined equally by scores of young Emirati men and women who were encouraged and inspired to think proactively and to design their own futures and the future of this nation.
For those who did not have the time or the privilege to join this august gathering of successful Nobel laureates, scientists, writers, actors and corporate leaders and listen to them, you too can be creative and successful.
You can follow a course in learning how to think and there are a few.

Last updated: October 18, 2007, 12:32 Virtually EmotionalBy Nirmala Janssen, Editor |
A stressed-out life is becoming a common complaint with the hardworking denizens of our fair city.
No time for family, friends or recreational activities has left many of us following a vicious pattern of labour, eat and sleep and this according to city doctors is leading to illnesses of our neurological systems.
The pressure to succeed, make a million in record time or even to buy that fancy Ferrari is slowly making all of us social climbers prone to high blood pressure which in turn transforms itself as foul tempers, road rage, impatience and finally an embolism of the brain.

It is hot news in every medium. People with a steady life partner are happier than those who live alone.
New research in Britain and the USA states that living in union with your partner will not only be beneficial to your health but will also benefit the health and well-being of your spouse and children.
Divorced, widowed or single people, it is believed, are a lot less happy, suffer from lower self-esteem and overall ill health.

Last updated: October 06, 2007, 16:42 Communication GapsBy Nirmala Janssen, Editor |
Have you, like me, wondered from time to time if you are communicating properly? As a person who has been in the wordsmith business for longer than I can remember, I have often wondered, after a conversation with a colleague or a family member if the message I was trying to convey had actually hit the mark.
One serious scientifically validated skills test later, I’ve realised, to my chagrin, that quite often while I was concentrating on transmitting my verbally encoded message and doing it right I did not pay any attention to the decoding of my message by the other party.
Now why is that important? Well, communication has consistently been defined as "transmitting and receiving information"; that is all right if the party you are talking to is a stranger and has no previous relationship with you.
