Hillary’s autumnal bloom

Late night Tuesday I went to bed disappointed. Hillary Clinton was lagging behind Barack Obama in the New Hampshire Democratic Primary.

I woke up Wednesday morning, however, to the news that "the first lady of everything" (in my opinion) had worked her magic with the women voters who had reportedly snubbed her, and I was ecstatic.

Why, you may ask.

Well, on July 19, 2007 I made a fervent wish that India would have her first woman president and on July 25, 2007 the country’s Electoral College appointed Pratibha Patil to that august position.

On that same day I wished that the United States of America should elect its first woman president in the autumn of 2008 and felt assured it would happen.

Hillary has been my role model for quite sometime now. Not because she’s a beautiful, popular woman but because she is ambitious, strong and courageous.

That lady was the first student to make a controversial graduation speech at Wellesley College. She was the first female partner at Rose Law firm, the first lady of Arkansas and the first lady of the USA. Add to that she is a loving mother and a dutiful wife who stood by her man in his darkest days. And now with her great comeback at the Democratic Primaries why not president?

Some of my colleagues were rooting for Obama, someone I like too. But, I believe that even though he is suave he isn’t really politically savvy because he just does not have the experience.

Yes, the savviest thing he’s done so far was to get Oprah Winfrey’s endorsement but does that mean that all African-Americans will vote for him or agree with his policies?

And any new president takes at least a year after inauguration to get to grips with the country and the politics of the world and allow me to say that the world really needs saving ASAP.

Also with the politically savvy and still eminently popular Bill Clinton by her side the US and the world will, in the words of Nathan Templeton of Commander in Chief fame "get two good people for the price of one vote".
