There’s A Winning Team Behind The Scenes

By Julian Danby, Senior Consultant for IGLS.

I’ve been considering this topic for a couple of weeks now, since moving over to Dubai Golf’s consultancy company – IGLS (International Golf & Leisure Services), following the closure of Nad Al Sheba.

The golf industry is a wonderful industry and has many different avenues in which to wander. Since turning professional some 14 years ago now, I have been very fortunate to have worked in some fantastic establishments in a number of key service roles in both golf and club operations.

I have had many enjoyable years looking after the needs of golfers, whether beginners, established golfers or professionals. I have also worked with some extremely dedicated and knowledgeable individuals all of whom have one thing in common – they do what they do for the love of the game.

When The Going Gets Far Too Tough

The US Open at Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania was a feast of golf, with some fabulous play from the sublime to the ridiculous.

Jim Hyler – the chairman of the championship committee – said: “This course is about as perfect as you can get it,” and who could argue with him?

The course was stunning, immaculately prepared and produced very consistent playing surfaces. However, it begs the question why make it so tough?

New Indian Venture Is Great For Dubai

Julian Danby

It would be remiss of me not to mention the hottest topic on the UAE golf scene this week, with the announcement of the Indian Masters, promoted and organised by Golf in DUBAI.

This new event on the European PGA Tour in February next year will boast India’s richest prize fund (Dh9.2 million) in the history of golf in the country a – bigger than this year’s Dubai Desert Classic!

This event becomes the 37th European Tour destination in history and the third Tour event that Golf in DUBAI are directly involved in organising, following the introduction of the Dubai Ladies Masters last October.

Well, what can I say? The best team won!

The Dubai Golf Trophy, aptly named and sponsored by Dubai Golf through Rodney Bogg, was another fantastic event for UAE golf and speaks volumes for the development of the game here.

The result, although convincing was a little flattering, which can always be the case with match play formats.
