Are you ready for the new season?Julian Danby |
Well, I have to say it’s nice to be back on Dubai soil after four weeks away, and what a pleasant surprise it was, to not be hit by the usual murky wall of summer humidity! From all accounts, most of August has been ‘reasonably’ pleasant and devoid of the despairing blazing inferno we usually have to endure. I hope you all have been taking advantage and getting your games in good shape for the fast approaching start to the new golfing season.
For golfers worldwide, the start of the golf season evokes feelings of hope, enthusiasm and expectation. For many, the desperate need to improve burns a fire of passion and drives the desire to want to try harder and do more. In the UAE, technically October 1 marks the start of the season, as summer rates end and the no doubt inflated prices for the peak season golf are introduced. Well guys and girls – the clock is ticking!
Ask yourself some questions:
What have I done that is different to the start of last year? Is my equipment prepared? Is it right for me? Am I prepared both physically and mentally? Do I have a plan?
Guaranteed, the majority of golfers would have some pretty negative responses to some of these questions and they may also think it’s a little late in the day with only five weeks remaining of summer to do anything about it – but they’ll be wrong – it’s never too late!
With the holy month of Ramadan approaching as well as the ensuing fewer working hours a given for most, many golfers will be relishing the opportunity to have more time on their hands to play the game they love. So don’t despair if you’re still angry over that last medal round or your handicap going up last season – focus on fixing it by visiting your local PGA professional. PGA professionals have all the tools to put you back on track, give you equipment advice, kit you out or make necessary alterations to your equipment, tune up your swing and, more importantly, plan your next few months and keep you motivated to improve.
Motivation and inspiration are the key to improving your golf. Having a mentor that you can rely on, trust and respect will not only enable you to keep focused but will guide you down a righteous road of progression. Remember it’s never too late – contact your local club and get started – winter’s fast approaching!
