You have to have lived under a rock for most of the last century not to know the story of The Sound of Music or not to have hummed the evergreen melodies like Do Re Mi, Edelweiss and I Am Sixteen Going on Seventeen. But no sweat, the musical is being staged in Dubai at Madinat Jumeirah, on May 22-23 and at Emirates Palace Hotel, Abu Dhabi on May 24.
Expect to hear familiar songs from the movie based on the story, which starred Julie Andrews, as well as some Austrian folk tunes and compositions by Mozart and Strauss.
A 15-minute intermission in this two-hour concert features the father and son duo Franz and Franz Jr who will weave magic on the piano with their mesmerising musical pieces. And what’s more, even the real Maria Von Trapp, on whose life the award-winning musical was based, will make an appearance as a BBC approved video on how the captain proposed to Maria Von Trapp will be screened.
