Painting: A record attempt
An Iranian artist is attempting to get his name into the Guinness Book of World Records with his 170-metre-long painting – the first of its kind in the Middle East. Shaheen Norouzi is planning to spend 10 days working on his record-breaking piece at Al Qasba. Depicting various aspects of life, the painting will be up for sale after it is completed and the proceeds will go towards the Peace for Children campaign.
Dine with Pamela: Charity auction
Hotshot celebrity Pamela Anderson will be the star attraction at a special charity auction in Abu Dhabi this weekend. Organised by Make a Wish UAE, the event offers one lucky person the chance to dine with the Baywatch star and also win a diamond necklace. Another highlight of the event is a celebrity football match at the Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi on Friday

Simply Mozart: Grand Opera Gala
The European Chamber Opera (ECHO) performs the Grand Opera Gala at Al Qasba, Sharjah, this evening. The biggest attraction of the opera will be Mozart’s Cosi Fan Tutte. Some of the other highlights of the evening are compositions from famous operas like La Traviata, Don Pasquale, The Pearlfishers, Tosca, Carmen, Madame Butterfly, Don Carlo and Nozze di Figaro, among others.
Concert: Ska beats
Get ready to hear one of the most popular Ska bands, The Beat. The British band, which will be fronted by Ranking Roger and Everett Moreton, will be supported by Skank Sinatra. Expect to hear Ska’s notable hits such as Can’t Get Used to Losing You and Hands Off... She’s Mine. Skank Sinatra is fronted by Shake (Bahrain’s prince of pop).
Exhibitions: Picasso revealed
The Middle East’s first exhibition of Pablo Picasso’s work is on display at the Emirates Palace Hotel. The 14-week-long event, entitled Picasso Abu Dhabi, presents masterpieces from the Musée National Picasso, Paris, which is home to 183 of his originals. The exhibition features 40 Picasso drawings, prints and manuscripts which reveal, for the first time, Picasso’s development of calligraphic poetry on the border between text and image.
Inspired by nature
This month, Dubai Lime’s featured artist is the Abu Dhabi-educated artist Amrita Sachin Bhatia. Until June 7 you can view the extensive work of Bhatia at Bert’s Cafe, Marina. Another highlight of this exhibition is a special exhibit by the Dubai Autism Centre and Dubai Centre for Special Needs. Bhatia’s canvas of works is inspired by elements of nature. The artist’s canvases range from the conceptual to the abstract in oils as well as acrylics.
