Exhibition: Conflict and trauma
Artists Fouad Khoury, Joana Hadjithomas, Khalil Joreige, Tarek Al Ghoussein and Laila Shawa are presenting their creations in a unique exhibition titled Roads Were Open/Roads Were Closed. This one-of-a-kind spectacle includes awe-inspiring photographs and films which capture the trauma and conflict in the Middle East from an artist’s point of view.

In tune with traditions: Musical evenings
Visitors to the Mall of the Emirates will be treated to traditional music by Indian sitar maestro Baluji Shrivastav on Friday as part of Ramadan activities. Other events lined up during the month include performances by Algerian rai singer Abdelkader Saadoun and Iranian dance group Otlar Dance Company.

Subcontinent sensations: Different strokes
Top artists from the subcontinent including Jamil Naqsh and Esmail Gulgee as well as the UAE’s Angelika Fulton, Sumaira Issacs, Seemita Roy and Nivedita Saha will showcase their creations at a four-day exhibition, Different Strokes, which opens from Sunday.

Bold brushes: Stories from the Boudoir
Iranian artist Nargess Hashemi, 29, whose exhibition, Stories from The Boudoir, opened yesterday, combines dots, stripes and geometric shapes to portray faceless women in a confined but comfortable ambience. This is Hashemi’s first solo exhibition in Dubai.

Exhibition: Arte’s sake
An exhibition of handmade art and craft from the UAE opens on Friday. Take your pick from some interesting knick knacks and gift items made by local artisans.
