MEIFF: A veritable feast for the eyes

By Pauline M. Forte, Staff Reporter

The 10-day Middle Eastern International Film Festival (MEIFF) which opens tomorrow at Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi, features more than 60 films from 32 countries. All the movies being shown at the festival will vie for the prestigious Black Pearl award by entering a competition comprising four categories – feature, documentary, short films and student films.

New to the festival this year are the Festival of Festivals and Environmental sections. Many of the 24 movies being screened in the Festival of Festivals segment have won or were nominated for awards in the past year at festivals around the world. Some of them are Two-Legged Horse (Iran) and The Smell of Apples (Iraq and Germany). The seven Environmental films will highlight green and humanitarian issues. Movies to watch out for in this segment are The Oryx: Freed Spirit of the Desert (UAE), Saving Luna (Canada) and Flow: For the Love of Water (US).

WHERE: Emirates Palace Hotel; Cinestar, Marina Mall and Abu Dhabi Mall

WHEN: October 10-19

TICKETS: Emirate Palace Hotel screenings (complimentary), other screenings Dh10: All screening passes: Dh100
