Yoga for phobias

Dr. Vishwas Chhabra

It is estimated that one in 10 persons may have a phobia that may occur at any time in his or her life.

Phobias are characterised by four factors: A persistent, irrational fear of an object or situation, a desire to avoid the object or situation, distress associated with the problem and recognition.

Some are so affected by phobia that they cannot lead a normal life.

Can yoga help?

In phobia, the unconscious, conscious and subconscious states of mind and physical body are attacked at the same time. With tools like asana, pranayama, meditation, and yoga nidra, yoga helps in balancing the nervous system.

Yoga Nidra

It may be rendered in English as "yogic sleep" or "sleep of the yogis". It’s a state of conscious deep sleep. During yoga nidra, one appears to be asleep. But the mind is conscious and aware.

Yoga nidra enables the person to be conscious in this state and nurture the seed of will power and enjoy the vitality of life.
