Prevent ageing – II

Dr Vishwas Chhabra

Yoga is dynamite to make you feel younger. When diseases and habits leading to degeneration are removed, one lives longer.

Inverted postures

The shoulder stand (sarvangasana) is sometimes called a “candle” because the body is kept straight as a candle in this posture.

Technique

  • Lie flat on your back. Inhale deeply while raising your legs and spine until the toes point to the ceiling
  • Your body now rests on your shoulders and the back of your neck. Place hands at the centre of the spine between the waist and the shoulder blades.
  • Keep spine and legs straight
  • Breathe slowly and deeply through the abdomen and concentrate on your thyroid gland
  • To go back from this posture, just bend knees, curve back and slowly return to lying position while exhaling

Benefits

  • Reverts grey hair to its natural colour and delays the onset of greying by increasing blood supply to the hair follicles
  • Gets the thyroid gland working at peak efficiency. This gland is mainly responsible for correct weight and youthful appearance
  • Regulates the sex glands and revitalises nerves, purifies blood and promotes good blood circulation
