The practice of hand washing - at least in public toilets - is on the decline.
While Americans claim to wash their hands when questioned, they do it much less frequently in reality, according to observations of 6,000 people using public toilets at six prominent venues in major US cities, reports the Baltimore Sun.
Hand washing is key in fending off germs. The US Centre for Disease Control and Prevention considers it the single most effective step in preventing the spread of ailment.
Noroviruses alone, which cause nausea, vomiting and stomach distress, infect 23 million people in the United States each year, and much of their damage could be prevented by hand washing.
Telly addicts
In the UK 10 million people admit they’ve never exercised regularly because they are too lazy, reports Daily Mirror
Instead they prefer to flop and watch telly – and laziness is catching, with 3.3 million giving up regular exercise.
Health firm Benenden found out of the 38 million in the UK who exercise, nearly four in ten only do so once or twice a week.
People in the North and Scotland are the worst offenders with 3.6 million admitting to never doing regular exercise. Midlanders are least lethargic.
