Abu Dhabi: As part of Abu Dhabi police’s campaign against begging, some beggars who were caught red-handed, were found staying in expensive furnished apartments or five star hotels, an Arabic newspaper reported.
Lieutenant General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Interior Minister, has instructed that beggars be referred to the social support centre supervised by the ministry to study their conditions.
“Begging is an uncivilised phenomenon, that leaves a bad impression about the society in which it appears,” police said, adding that they were prepared to receive reports from the public about beggars.
Some professional beggars have made Ramadan an investment season according to Col Mohammad Saleh Badah, Deputy Director of Public Relations in the Ministry of Interior.
