Fate uncertain for Al Wasl villas, Mansoori buildingBy Mohammed N Al Khan, Salam Al Amir, Staff Reporters |
Residents of villas marked for demolition under the Jumeirah Garden City project on Al Wasl Road are resigned to the fact that they may be asked to leave.
An employee of Dr Michael’s Dental Clinic on Al Wasl Road said that they were informed by the villa owner about the possible demolition. "We were asked to start looking for a new location," the employee said, adding that the contract has been renewed for one year.
Mamoun Nur Rahman, who works at Décor Garden in one of the villas, said their landlord is fighting to prevent the developers from knocking down their place.
"Rumours are the area will be turned into lakes and canals stretching up to Burj Dubai," he said.
Al Mansoori building: Marked to go
The paint has barely had time to dry on the four-storey Al Mansoori building housing 17 apartments. The building, which was completed in January this year in Satwa is in the demolition boundary marked by the Jumeirah Garden City planners.
"We were aware that demolitions were commencing in Satwa, but we never got any official notice," said Khalid Al Bahtity, finance administration manager for Nad Al Sheba Real Estate, the company managing the building.
"I’m really surprised to hear this. We have already got all our paperwork done at the municipality and they never informed us that we are in the demolition zone."
