No more love handles: Victoria’s secret

Imagine your body wrapped like an Egyptian mummy – very tight – with a promise that you will lose those extra inches that you cannot hide from others no matter what you wear.

Sounds interesting? Then listen to the story of this 73-year-old grandmother who has been a pioneer in body wrapping procedure for nearly 40 years, with satisfied clients who have said goodbye to unwanted body fat in a matter of hours.

Easy solution

Speaking to XPRESS over the telephone, Victoria Morton, founder of Suddenly Slender, the Body Wrap solution, said: "People who are overweight or obese are ashamed of presenting themselves in social circles. They always wonder ‘how am I going to lose that extra fat?’ With diet supplements being risky at times, obese people find it difficult to shed those extra inches … and for them I have this solution – body wrap."

The beauty industry needs no introduction in the United States. Americans spend $33 billion (Dh121 billion) annually on weight-loss products and services, though current figures state that 75 per cent of Americans are overweight and 40 per cent obese.

"The reason the body of a person gets bulkier is due to the food and other toxic waste that gets accumulated in the form of fat. Usually in women, the body fat gets centered between the waist and the knee area, while in men it is around the belly and the sides known as ‘love handles’," says Morton, who runs over 1,200 franchisees of Suddenly Slender all over the world after opening the first outlet in 1969.

She plans to open an outlet in Dubai soon.

Though a human body disposes of waste from time to time, water retention and toxic fluids are the main cause of body bulk, says Morton. "As a mum of five and grandmother of eight, I know what it takes to keep a healthy, slim and fit body," says Morton.

Once wrapped with minerals and pure water, the skin absorbs the solution, and the waste drips into the plastic bags tied to the hands and feet of a person. "The person is always in a relaxed mode. He or she can do light exercise or perhaps just stand to complete the entire procedure that may take 2 hours to lose up to 10 inches," she says.

Best results

The best results, Morton says, can be achieved by undergoing wrapping once or twice a week; usually over a two- to three-month period, followed by maintenance wraps every couple of months or so. A procedure may cost $125-$250 (Dh458-Dh917).

"Women are told to wear tight jeans and special bras are provided by us, while men wear swimming trunks and tight shirts. Their bodies are wrapped, including their faces," says Morton who points out that if faces are left unwrapped "they may look like lollipops since the extra fat on the face too has to burn".

Though body wrapping has been there for a while, there is no harm in giving it a shot. As Morton puts it: "I change your body. I change your mind. And I change your life."
