Chinese mega mall Dragon Mart hosted a spectacular ceremony to celebrate the launch of the 2008 Olympic summer games which begins in Beijing next month.
The event was staged mainly to build Olympic fever among the vast Chinese community across Dubai in the lead up to the games as well as acknowledge the UAE’s participation at the showpiece. Two of the UAE’s Beijing bound contingent were present as 18-year-old judoka Saeed Al Qubaisi and sailor Adil Khalid seemed to be enjoying a welcome break from their hectic training regimes.
The duo along with the media and other invited guests were treated to several eye-catching displays from performers who were flown in for the ceremony specially from China.
Leading dignitaries present included Ebrahim Abdul Malek, General Secretary of the UAE National Olympic Committee, Chen Shu Xian, Director of China National Olympic Committee, and Chinese General Counsel Gao You Zhen.
Dragon Mart will also be hosting a series of demonstrations of several Olympic sports over the next six weeks which will be open to the general public.
